THE NEW ALSUP

Wonderful changes are coming for Alsup Elementary! In May of 2018, the school district was awarded a BEST grant from the Colorado Department of Education to construct an all new Alsup Elementary. The new school will be located a few blocks from the current school location and will provide our children with a new safe and secure site; engaging and collaborative work spaces, state of the art technology, a fun and creative learning environment, and so much more! We congratulate Alsup and look forward to our new school.

HOW IS THIS PROJECT FUNDED?

The budget for the new Alsup Elementary is approximately $33.8 million. $19.6 million is coming from our newly awarded BEST grant. The remaining $14.2 million is being provided by the school district.

  • What is the BEST Grant?

Established in 2008 with the signing of C.R.S.22-43.7, BEST provides an annual amount of funding in the form of competitive grants to school districts, charter schools, institute charter schools, boards of cooperative educational services, and the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind. BEST funds can be used for the construction of new schools as well as general construction and renovation of existing school facility systems and structures. (Source: cde.state.co.us/cca)

  • Adams 14 Matching Contributions

Matching funds for the project have come from several sources. The school district has committed to using approximately $3.7 Million from our Capital Reserve fund, which is currently set aside for new construction. $3.5 Million from our general fund's unassigned fund balance and the remaining amount of our match is coming from the issuance of Certificates of Participation which will in be paid by an annual transfer from the General Fund.

WHO IS ASSISTING THE SCHOOL DISTRICT?

  • How are firms procured?

The school district utilizes a competitive selection process for procuring all firms working on the Alsup project. Request for Proposals are issued by the school district; proposals are evaluated by the selection committee for experience and qualifications; and interviews take place to ensure the firms are a fit for the school district community. The Board of Education approvals all final recommendations from the selection committee.
  • Owners Representative

An Owner’s Representative is the liaison between the school district and the construction industry, working on behalf the school district, to ensure all project needs are being met and the school district is receiving an excellent product for the established budget. The school district has hired Cooperative Strategies to assist with the task.
  • Architect

    RB+B Architects
  • General Contractor

    Fransen Pittman General Contractors
  • Other service providers

When required for the project, the school district will follow the same selection process outlined above.

ALSUP ELEMENTARY NEW DESIGN

  • Design Advisory Group (DAG)

A DAG is a group of stakeholders dedicated to working with the architect and the school district to ensure the vision, mission, and culture of Alsup is realized in the design of the new school. The DAG is the public extension of the design team and will meet regularly with the Architect to evaluate design options, discuss Alsup’s educational goals, and establish expectations for the new school.
  • Who serves on the DAG?

The school district will work with Alsup to identify individuals with a broad range knowledge specific to Alsup’s educational delivery, facility need requirements, community expectations, and an understanding of construction. This core group of individuals should be able to work collaboratively to provide guidance, vision, and a good cross section of the values of Alsup and the greater Alsup community.
  • Community Meetings for Design

At certain points during the design process, the school district will host larger community meetings to allow the public to see the current progress on the design of the new Alsup campus and to ask any questions. We encourage anyone interested in this process to attend. Meeting dates will be posted as they are developed.
  • What is the new Alsup going to look like?

Once our Architect has begun development of design documents you will be able to view their progress and the eventual final design of the new Alsup Elementary here.
